ADX : A new team to shape the future of Japan's anime industry launches

NOVEMBER, 2024

We are delighted to announce the launch of "ADX," a specialized team focused on driving digital transformation in anime production. This new initiative brings together BASSDRUM, a collective of Japan's leading tech directors; sync.dev, known for its expertise in merging visual expression with technology; and Fabrica, experts in agile and adaptive project management.

In 2022, the market size of Japan's anime industry reached an all-time high of approximately 3 trillion yen (around 27 billion USD) (1), despite the then ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, several anime works gained widespread attention both domestically and internationally, and in 2024, events, films, and television series continue to drive the industry’s growth.
However, alongside this rapid expansion, various challenges are becoming more pronounced on the production side, including labor shortages and rigid workflows. Addressing these issues is essential for the continued development of Japan’s anime industry.
In response, we at BASSDRUM have established "ADX," a new team dedicated to advancing digital transformation in anime production. This initiative brings together our expertise with that of sync.dev, specialists in visual expression and technology, and Fabrica, a leader in project management and creative direction.

◼️ ADX Mission

ADX aims to drive digital transformation in Japan's anime production projects, enhancing their sustainability. The team is particularly focused on delivering innovative solutions in the following areas:

Supporting Workflow Transformation: By reassessing traditional production processes and developing new tools or implementing and customizing game engines, ADX aims to build an efficient and flexible production environment.
Building Technical Infrastructure: ADX strengthens the technical foundation of anime production through infrastructure enhancements, including intranet servers and production systems.
Promoting Cross-Industry Collaboration: By partnering with production and technology companies outside the anime field, ADX integrates diverse perspectives and technologies, introducing new technical approaches to anime production.
Providing External CTO Support: ADX supports the recruitment and training of engineers, fostering a collaborative culture that enables engineers to work closely in the creative process.

◼️ Companies Comprising ADX

ADX is a team formed by three companies well-versed in technology, creativity, and project management.

Recently, the company has gained further recognition for its technical expertise, contributing to the production of globally acclaimed works.

"Japanese anime has garnered worldwide attention, and its market continues to grow. As fans of anime ourselves, we are proud and delighted to see this expansion. However, despite efforts across the industry, production environments still face many challenges, and the process of improvement remains ongoing.
ADX is a team created by three companies with expertise in technology, creativity, and project management, united to enhance anime production. By advancing digital transformation, we aim to solve various challenges at the production level, creating a faster, more enjoyable environment where creators can truly thrive."
