WORK
Smile, Anger, and Say Cheese!
OVERVIEW
This interactive experience is part of the new permanent exhibition "Park of Aging" at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan), one of Japan's leading science museums. "Park of Aging" is designed to help visitors feel, learn about, and reflect on the concept of aging, which everyone will eventually experience.
As aging progresses, changes in the brain make it harder to recognize others' negative emotions, such as anger. "Smile, Anger, and Say Cheese!" allows participants to see how their "smiling face" and "angry face" are perceived by elderly people through a print-sticker booth, encouraging them to imagine how they might engage with aging in a personal way.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The main feature of this interactive experience is a print-sticker booth, which required advanced technical expertise to customize its hardware, including the internal cameras. This made it challenging to issue direct commands to the hardware from the content application.
We were responsible for the development and technical direction of the program that controls the hardware, including the internal cameras, flash, and printer.
Additionally, we analyzed the control specifications of each hardware component and implemented straightforward control programs for the content application. We also provided control samples and guidance on the control flow, covering a wide range of technical direction tasks.
