Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai : Panasonic Group Pavilion “The Land of NOMO”

Installations

OVERVIEW

The Panasonic Group Pavilion “The Land of NOMO” was an official pavilion presented by the Panasonic Group at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. Drawing on technologies developed through Panasonic’s long-standing research on understanding people, the pavilion created an immersive environment designed to stimulate children’s senses and unlock the power of their imagination.

Inside, the pavilion consists of two main areas: the “Unlock” experience area, where visitors explore the potential within themselves, and “The Earth” exhibition area, which presents visions of a future society.

The Unlock experience area is divided into four zones. Zone 1 heightens visitors’ senses through a cross-modal experience that combines spatial audio, visual media, and haptic technologies. Zone 2 invites visitors to explore an unknown world guided by their own curiosity and intuition. Zone 3 transforms behavioral data from Zone 2 into a personalized story that reveals each visitor’s unique sensibility and potential. In Zone 4, the butterflies released in Zone 3 gather into a powerful energy that takes flight into the sky.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We joined the project during the early stages of experience design and served as the overall technical director from concept development through final implementation, focusing primarily on Zone 4, the climax of the pavilion experience.

Our role extended far beyond technical support. In Zone 4, we had a wide range of responsibilities including R&D, system architecture, team formation, hardware design, equipment selection, and aspects of experience direction. By treating technology and creative expression as inseparable, we maintained overall responsibility for the quality and coherence of the experience.

One of our key challenges was transforming Panasonic’s long-standing research on understanding people, together with behavioral analysis data, into an entertaining experience that would leave a lasting impression on children. Rather than simply handling large volumes of data, we prioritized clarity, surprise, and emotional impact. Data integration, 4D effects, interactive elements, and visual storytelling were seamlessly combined into a single experience. To support this, we designed and implemented an integrated timeline system that coordinated complex hardware, media equipment, and interactions across multiple zones. This system formed the backbone of the experience while enabling smooth collaboration among the many teams involved in production.

By understanding the pavilion’s broader narrative and translating it into a tangible experience that engages both the body and emotions, we helped bring to life the pavilion’s central idea of unlocking human sensibility with both technical precision and creative depth.
