HOTEL KOE : Digital Room Number Signage
“Hotel koe” was newly opened in Shibuya to embody “new basic for new culture”, which is the brand concept of lifestyle brand “koé”. It was designed with a global perspective to look ahead “now and in the future” in “Japan and the rest of the world”.
We were in charge of technical direction, system construction and setting up the installation of the digital art in front of the guest rooms, which also functions as a room number sign.
When a sensor detects a guest passing in the hallway, an animation of the room number is played generatively on the display in front of the guest room. The animation becomes one big movement by interlocking multiple displays and welcomes guests to the room.
Within the limited budget and with the necessity of configuring the corridor in a simple design, a digital art frame, which runs on Android, was adopted for displays. Based on the premise of stable operation over a long period of time, we modified the operation system and developed a live monitoring system for each device.
On top of that, in order to display artwork, we developed an original Android application that can control animation linkage via the network, and designed a flexible system for future expansion.
