Born in Kyoto, Gaku studied architecture at Waseda University and its graduate school. After completing his studies, he worked at an architectural design firm, engaging in both design and construction supervision. In 2021, he began creating independent works utilizing the metaverse, earning accolades including the Excellence Award at XR CREATIVE AWARD 2022, finalist recognition at WIRED CREATIVE HACK AWARD 2023, and the Grand Prize at TOKYO NODE “XR HACKATHON 2023”. Two years later, he joined MESON Inc., where he was involved in XR-focused project planning, experience design, and development direction. In 2026, he founded Gaku Shimizu Spatial Studio, through which he explores the planning, experience design, and spatial design of environments that seamlessly traverse the physical and digital realms. He is a licensed Second-Class Architect in Japan.
